Rob Sager, 29 Dies of Heart Failure
Zeb Atlas informed David Forest this morning that his friend, Rob Sager, was found dead over the weekend. This muscle stud with a smile that made everyone swoon allegedly passed away in his sleep of congestive heart failure. He was only 29 years old.Sager was former Jet Set exclusive, Brett Mycles, who went on to mainstream magazine fame as fitness model. Sager was an absolute joy to everyone he came in contact with in this business. Everyone I've ever known to have worked with him has had nothing but wonderful things to say about him -- a rarity in the porn world, as you can imagine. He was truly special. From his generosity and work ethic to his stunningly beautiful form, he was a favorite of both fans and industry insiders and will be incredibly missed.
The cause of Sager's heart failure has not yet been released, though it is rumored that an unfortunate penchant for steroid use combined with partying is a high probability. I can only hope that this will serve as a wakeup call to the porn studs who put their bodies through hell to try an achieve some unobtainable ideal of perfection.
Even those who look like Gods are still mere mortals and are not immune to these dangers.
* POST SCRIPT: A few people have emailed me, upset by the speculation of cause for Sager's heart failure, claiming it could have been an anuerism, something hereditary, etc. All of this is very possible but equally speculative, I must say. The fact is: It is not normal for someone perfectly fit, healthy and in their 20's to die of congestive heart failure. I have seen more porn stars than I can count on my hand hospitalized because of steroid use and/or their combining it with drinking, drugs, etc. We can all pussy foot around the subject and continue to perpetuate the myth that this is "okay" or we can call it what it is and hope that some of these guys realize they are not indestructible. Rob Sager was a wonderful human being who brought nothing but light to the lives of the people who had the pleasure of meeting him. That light was gone too soon and I would hate to see that happen to anyone else who could've learned from this. So let the other sites perpetuate "fantasy." Rob Sager was 29, not 28, and there is no basis to believe that either steroids or partying had anything to do with his death. As someone who's own father experienced a ruptured aeortic aneurysm at 58, I was advised to be screened from age 50 onwards. As an over cautious hypochondiac I had an elective MRI scan at 42 that showed no distention.
A school friend did die in their early 30's of a brain aneurysm which I have since discovered has a much earlier onset.
For the aeorta to fail at such an age is tragic and extremely unsual.

I always enjoyed the moments when I was able to email him or talk to him online. He was such a lovable guy. He was bisexual, as I know he had a girlfriend at times, and a boyfriend at times too.
I hope what happened does make other bodybuilders open their eyes and realize the fate that can happen.

yeah, sure, right. since, of course, there's zero correlation between that perfection and one's marketability.
it's really a wakeup call to consumers who demand boys who look like this, and the studios who are happy to pander to it.
i'm not saying zero fault lies with his behavior (after all, that's the only thing he could control), but that he felt it necessary to make that choice to make a living in his chosen profession.

You are absolutely right. People who use steroids, especially in conjunction with other substances, get into a world of trouble that non-users rarely experience. They can deny it all they want, but it's not normal to die of congestive heart failure in your 20s unless you weigh 500 lbs.
I've been a fitness trainer for more than twenty years, and I try to tell people that jogging isn't good for most people because knee pain isn't a symptom of a healthy fitness regimen. No one should be getting knee replacements in their 40s. But trying to tell addicts that they are addicts is nearly impossible, whether they're addicted to alcohol, steroid use, jogging, crystal meth or sex.
Anyway, I applaud your curt dismissal of your detractors. People who are full of shit need to be told that they're full of shit. Way to go!

I think it is absolutely disrespectful for you to even speculate outloud what Rob died from. This is how stupid rumors get started. Think about it. We Americans live and breath what the "Stars" do in their daily lives, and then we shoot them down when they are down or gone. Whatever thoughts any of us have regarding how he died, should be kept quiet. While most healthy guys in their 20s do not have heart problems, there are the oddities. Read the papers, you will see it every day. Many are hereditary. I do not do drugs, nor steroids, nor am I a doctor. I am just someone who has always admired him from afar. Please show some graciousness towards Rob and his family, and leave any "foul play" thoughts to yourself. In time, I am sure the coroner will make a full report. In the meantime, thank you Rob for making so many of us so happy.
While we're finding fault with the models, and with the industry, I am just curious how many of us have photos on our computers, or magazines under our beds of models that look like whatever perfect is.

Regardless of what this actually man died from, let's take a look at your logic.
You suggest a rumor that he died from a combination of steroids and "partying". Then you criticize those using steroids (or maybe just porn studs using steroids? or maybe just porn studs in general?) for trying to achieve some unobtainable (although it apparently is obtainable) ideal of perfection.
So, if I understand correctly, your position is for people to keep using party drugs of all kinds, but it's the steroids that are bad? Should people stop exercising too? Because crystal and excessive exercise can cause death. Basically, if I understand you correctly, nobody should engage in any behavior that can be dangerous when combined with crystal or other party drug use. Because heaven forbid people should stop that!

Thanks for the news. It is indeed a terrible tragedy, no matter what happened exactly. No, it is not normal for a fit man that age to die of CHF. I think you are right to draw attention to the possibility of steroid/drug use. Sad, but so often true.

When I first heard about this "steroids" came to my mind. I followed him and have many of his DVDs, and latelly he was getting huge. He was doing what I thought was a wonderful combination, because he was getting bigger, but cut at the same time. Not all roid users find the perfect combination and steroid use doesn't mean you will get like he was. It's a combination of many things.
Of course I was wrong. It wasn't a wonderful combination. He pushed himself over the limit. He rushing too much. Ceasar is another actor who gets big in seasons and then he gets thin. He has been lucky, those variations are not good for the heart. Ceasar obviously parties in his movies. Brett doesn't, or at least I never thought he looked like he was partying. Another one that I saw in August at the Splash bar in New York was Matt Rush. When I saw him in person, he was just looking Matchelli's show. He was dressed and with somebody I assume was his boyfriend. He was dancing and drinking. I guess Matt and Matchelli are friends. They left together. Matt was unrecognizable. He was huge, his face looked like a balloon. He didn't look normal at all. He was like a balloon. His smile was kind of "stupid." He was just incredible looking. Even his lips were more bloated than normal. All these guys have been lucky. I would have sworn Robert was the healthiest one of the actors obviously doing roids in the industry.
That happens to bodybuilders who take a lot of roids and while preparing for a competition, pass out because they refuse to drink water since a few days before. The heart just can't take it. Not all bodybuilders who do roids die, but I guess Brett was alone and no one could call 911. As you said, Matt Rush juices a lot, but he's bloated, that means he is taking water and that makes a difference.
This guy was pathetic. Anybody who thinks he died of anything else but steroid use needs to wake up from the lala land they're in. But this is what comes of people whose only claim to success is their looks. There's so many pretty faces and pretty bodies that pop up every day, and that competition forces the not so smart ones to go over the edge in their pursuit of perfection. Let's face it this guy may have had a good body, but he wasn't very smart was he.

Rob didn't put his body through hell because he was a porn star. It was because he was a fitness model. A lot of guys do try to bulk up especially for Falcon when it comes to porn but Brett took his fitness modeling career far more serious than his brief stint in porn. Yeah the guys in Falcon should tone it down a bit but the twinks are what worry me. The Bel Ami guys are fit and fabulous and thatis how the rest of our twinks should look. Whomever wants a bunch of puny, scrawny weaklings is a total pervert. Guys get their asses kicked for looking that way. To want young guys to look like their barely out of puberty is what needs to stop. I wish Rob lived healthier but who are we too judge? I'm overweight, there's guys that want to look like Mr. Puniverse and there are guys that are roidhogs. Everybody stuggles with body image at one point in their lives. We need to take care of ourselves but not worry about what others think of us.

Is it really necessary to especulate about his death? People, I do have pictures of him somewhere in my computer, I work out 5 times a week, I'm almost 29 and I could NEVER say i look one third as good as him. But maybe I can say I'm healthier. There is a big difference and yes, we all want to look good and stuff, but it's the same thing that's happening to women all over the world, it's not enough for them to be at a normal weight, they have to be skinny, thinner and thinner, they have to look like the X-ray of a liquid. Well, with us guys the pressure is towards the opposite side of the scale. I'm horrified everyday when I go to the gym and I see 17, 18, 21 year old kids getting bigger than hell in a month or so. And you KNOW they're doing the illegal thing, they're playing with fire. And you know what? Even though I know what's happening inside their bodies and I find terrible stories like Rob's who I admired so much, there's a part of me that still envies them and wants to have a body like theirs. I think we all have that part, I know I do, otherwise I wouldn't have his pictures somewhere in my computer. But it's a matter of keeping that aspect of us in check and indulge it with the natural workout and the good old protein shake after a session instead of doing drugs, 'cause that's what steroids are, let's be honest. People, priority check... this perfection race is taken a detour that's made us forget about rule number one in life "DON'T DIE". Let's try not to be perfect, but to be healthy.

It is a known fact that steroid use and party drugs cause severe damage to the heart and circulatory system - causing people to just drop dead. Take a look back at some of the professional jocks that are dead now because of their love for the juice. Have you forgotten those?
And just because you're young and pretty doesn't mean you can't get sick - or die. I was in my thirties when I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart caused by a viral infection - most likely acquired as a child. I was healthy as a horse and then BAM, I find myself in a hospital for days and now I am on meds for the rest of my life to regulate my heart. Luck of the draw I guess but I have to live with it for whatever time I have left.
I am sorry that Rob Sager is gone, and maybe its possible that it was genetics that caused his passing - but I have a feeling that outside sources caused his demise. With all the information available about 'roid' use and the dangers - but people make a conscious decision to do it anyway thinking "it can't happen to me" then they get what's coming to them.

CLEARLY he was on steroids... you don't obtain a physique like that from a protein shake, good genes and DNA only take a body so far.
He had enormous pecs, and I tend to think that me may have been into bench pressing. I've heard about many problems with the aorta with bench pressing at too high weights. Do it at lighter weights and this problem is less likely to arise. This is not mentioned often, because bench pressing is considered such a macho thing. But it puts too much weight too close to the heart.
Unfortunately, the speculations about Rob using steroids are correct. I knew Rob, before all of the gay porn and even after it. He did use them. I don't know if it contributed directly to his death, but I can imagine that it did not help things any. I just learned of his death a few minutes ago while surfing the net. It's a terrible tragedy, and I send my sympathies to his wife. She is a really sweet girl.
I think no one should even boher speculating his death...it will only bring up dumb thoughts...as far everyone thinks the heart failure is just a cover up for steroids as the stereotypes will perhaps b if a model died that it was due to anorexia or bulimia...noone buys into anyhting different as their thought keep still....rob was a wonderful...a beautiful person and one who will be remembered for his work and the art he was able to distribute by his choices...i love you rob rest in peace love :D

When I want muscle I pay for it cuz I can and the muscle punks are stupid enough to stick their gay dicks in my mouth while pretending to be str8!
I had no idea he had passed away....I just bought his collector's edition (which is phenomenal) and I went online to try and find more of his work....and I find out he is dead. I cannot belive what I am reading....wow - this is a trip. I am lost right now - what a fantastic person and good looking guy he was.....cannot believe this.

Get your heads out of your asses, people. There have been way too many twentysomething bodybuilders dying of "congestive heart failure." I am nearly 50, and have battled obesity for a good portion of my adult life. Would it be unusual for me to die of congestive heart failure? Probably not.
But this makes maybe the twelfth time I've heard of this happening to some young muscle guy, whether associated with gay porn or not. Bodies like Rob's only come from one of two places: juice or surgery, and I don't recall ever having heard of him going under the knife.
As someone else has already said, this needs to be a wake-up call, but I don't think it will be. Rob was part of an industry where the value of what you are selling is based on an almost sadistic demand for physical perfection. It can be attained, but like everything else, there is a price. I'm sorry he paid for it with his life, and sorrier still that this will not be the last time....
I just found out about Rob/Brett's unfortunate death. While he had possibly the most perfect physique it was easy to tell by the dialogue in the vids that he was a kind and simple man. Regardless, HE IS MISSED. Be kind, people. He is is gone. We have been blessed to have seen him (and his INCREDIBLE BODY) and can own a memory of him.
