The Hookies!
The 2008 International Escort Awards henceforth dubbed "The Hookies" were held at RAGE Nightclub on Saturday night and I've got the scoop and an exclusive photo gallery! There's so much to cover here, let's take this piece by piece. THE OUTFIT: Every year the GayVN Awards and the Grabby's kind of battle it out for which is going to be The Oscars of the year and which will be The Golden Globes. Depending on what they have in store, you wear your finest dress clothes to one and what you'd wear to the MTV Music Video Awards to the other. But when it comes to an awards show like The Hookies, I figured, you want to wear something totally wacky and wild and inappropriate! It's supposed to be one big crazy party and the whole thing is kind of funny, so wear something that lets people know you're in on the joke. ...I have to say, I'm one of the only people who thought along those lines. These hookers were dressed to the fuckin' nines, tryin' to show each other up with their designer labels and uber bling. I opted for a HUSTLER mesh T-Shirt and gym shorts. Thank God I was sitting at the same table as Chi Chi LaRue, Bobby Trendy and Jonathan Chang. I fit in PERFECTLY!
THE RED CARPET: Angel Benton was taking turns on the mike with Leo Buck from VillageTV.com and they looked like they got quite a lot of hot interviews which I'm sure we'll see on YouTube ...around this time next year.
THE CEREMONY: The show lasted about 40 minutes and ended not a moment too soon. It was very well paced. They ran through the awards with the help of TV screens listing the nominees instead of relying on porn stars and hookers to pronounce names correctly. (Who will forget Guy Parker's "Lex Sab-ree" at the GayVN's this year?) Host Jonny McGovern was really something! Consistently misrepresented as a not-so distant cousin of Kyle Foxxx, McGovern's schtick is southern-trash-ghetto-drawl. I had never seen his show on Logo, but it was nice to have a real television celebrity hosting the show.
David Forest had apparently never seen his show either. One of the first things he said upon accepting his award for Best Escort Agency was, "I don't know who you are, but hey, you're a star!" McGovern took offense and (jokingly?) brought it up several times throughout the evening. "I don't know who you are either," he jabbed back. Forest also thanked, first and foremost, "the jury in Van Nuys that has basically given my program, Meet the Stars, the green light as a legitimate business."
Most Applause of the Evening: Probably a tie between Dean Coxx ripping off his shirt and accepting his award for ClubDean.com as Best Escort Web Site, and Chi Chi LaRue taking to the stage. She presented Arpad Miklos with Best Porn Star Escort.
Only Tie of the Night (...excepting the cute one Brandon Baker was wearing!): The Most Versatile Escort win between Kyle Foxxx and Chase Evans. Much deserved! Even though I always kind of just figure versatile means "bottom."
Trophy Boys: Cody Springs from RandyBlue.com and a hottie named Miguel Alessandro, both of whom made out and showed more skin than any of the nominees, winners or presenters throughout the night. And thank God they did! They helped move the show along, as well.
Most Utterly Incomprehensible: Tristan Mathews winning... what? So close to the mike, no one could understand a word. And went back twice for more, no less! (Looked it up. He won Sexiest Escort.)
Most "We Want More of You" of the night: London Boy Pete. So adorable. Won Best Overall Escort of the year and was so adorable and humble with his accent and shy smile, no one could get enough of him.
Best Dressed: Jonathan Lowe. Wow. Like a college prep from Harvard on Spring Break. Gorgeous smile. I had never met him. I didn't meet him there either, really. But I wish I had! Especially since he won Best Bottom.
Most Underdressed (You can't call it Worst Dressed, because there's always going to be Bobby Trendy and that's his thing): Barrett Long. "Too hot to dress up," he told me. I couldn't agree with him more actually. He won Biggest Dick. ...And they mean penis, by the way. He's really a sweet guy. Although I do think they should have another kind of "Biggest Dick" award and let us vote for that.
Most Missing: Diesel Washington winning Best Fetish Escort, Two Boys in London winning Best Escort Ad, Luiz Prado winning Best Top and Mike L.A. winning Best Bodyworker -- among the missing!
Other porn notables in attendence at the ceremony in no particular order: Ryan Thompson, Andy Kirra, Drew Warner, Eric Cordova, CJ Knight, Rusty, TJ Young and Jason Crew.
THE AFTER PARTY: Bobby Trendy was kind enough to hold an invite-only after party at his store until the wee hours of the morning. I didn't say for "wee," however. I made an appearance, dished with Chi Chi LaRue, met and felt up the escort of the year, thanked Brandon and Bobby, talked to a few members from my web site and headed out.
We really needed "The Hookies" this year though.
It will probably be the only "gay adult" awards show held in Los Angeles this year.

Probably cause the LA porn scene sucks now. (No pun intended). Look at the people there... Bobby Trendy, fug-o Jonathan Chang, Kyle Foxxx, Andy Kirra, Brandon Baker, Angel Benton, etc... Whatever happened to the REAL porn stars like Ryker, Max Grand, Chad Knight, etc?
As much of a tool as Michael Lucas is, he does know how to cast decent guys who LOOK like they should be doing porn.
