"The Hookies" at Splash Bar in NYC!
The 3rd International Escort Awards, aka "The Hookies," were held last night at Splash Bar in New York City. The ceremony was light years better than last year's show in West Hollywood. For one thing, the place was packed with patrons who were all genuinely interested, cheered on the nominees and watched intently from their spots in the bar throughout the entire show. (I can only think this is because in Los Angeles, it's hard to get people to be interested in anything that doesn't directly involve them. I love Weho more than any city in the world, but c'mon, you know it's true.) RentBoy owner Jeff led with an empowering speech that kicked off the ceremonies. Shaquida turned it out as a truly AMAZING host. She did the three most important things: Kept the energy going, made sure everything went quickly and made people laugh. And she did all those things REALLY well! I was so impressed with her hosting abilities, the "gurl" is a true pro!
Last year's host, Jonny "The Gay Pimp" McGovern, found his niche this year performing a fun song about hookers at the show's half-time point. It was just enough Jonny and totally in the spirit of the evening!
Other highlights of the evening included:
- Jason Pitt was one of the biggest breakout star of the evening, the center of attention no matter what he was doing. Pitt later won the award for Best Newcomer and his popularity in the room went from an already astounding high to ceiling shattering!- Angel Skye from AngelSlutGarden.com was passing out flyers for his site and complimentary DVD's, promoting the hell out of himself. You go, boy!
- I went to say hello and hug Barrett Long and he said, "Don't touch me," perhaps afraid he would catch homosexuality. ...I kid, I kid. He didn't want me touching him because he said I'm a dick for that story I posted earlier in the week. But au contrare, it was Long who picked up the Biggest Dick Award for the evening. ...And whipped it out, and twirled it around, and bent down and licked it and no new material and blah blah blah!
- Jason Crew was a delight, friendly to all and not in that icky "I'm hustling you" way either. He was just out to have a good evening of fun and frolick with his fans and industry friends. His personality only gets better with age.
- I hadn't seen Spike since the days I used to host "Cocktails with the Stars." I forgot he'd moved to New York City and it was so great to see him. He spent some quality time cuddling up to Talvin Damachio in the early part of the evening. - Michael Lucas "gets" it. And that's why it was nice to have him there in the VIP booth as we watched the show. He's been around, he knows everyone and when certain people hit the stage, we can share an eye roll or gagging motion and it's always agreed upon.
- Most Versatile Escort went to Mike (who?) and since he didn't show, Rusty decided to take it. And I'm not altogether certain Mike is getting it back.
- Ryan Raz made quite an impression on me by dropping his pants on several occasions throughout the night. ...Wow, nice hole, Rizzle! And the smile? Razmataz! This boy needs more promotion beause he's a fuckin' STAR! Mmm kay? Razzle dazzle, em! - I presented the final award of the evening, the Lifetime Achievement Award. I had the honor of giving it to one of my best friends, Brandon Baker. I prepared a speech giving the colorful history of Brandon's rise from the youngest and most successful general manager of Red Roof Inns to becoming the Vice President of RentBoy.com, highlighting that Baker continues to infuse a new energy into the world's oldest profession every day. Brandon's drive is indefatigable and though his "quest for fun" knows very few bounds, there's no denying we've watched him grow from boyhood into this most wonderful man.
I meant every word I said up there. He is such a great light in our industry and in my life. I will be detailing more personal notes about my trip to New York City in the "Diary" soon.
