Hot Talk LA Refuses To Censor Jason Sechrest’s “The Curious Hours” Following Complaints
PRESS RELEASE: (WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA) – Following weeks of discussion, mainstream talk radio outlet Hot Talk LA will resume production of their show “The Curious Hours,” wherein host JASON SECHREST interviews adult entertainment performers to what has apparently become a more hardcore look at the hardcore sex industry than the station had originally bargained for.
“The Curious Hours” is the only show about adult entertainment on the otherwise entirely mainstream network and though the show is quickly becoming one of the most listened to on the roster, it has also become the most controversial, inciting hate mail to the station’s owners. From religious fundamentalists who have called the show “audio pornography” to gay rights activists that have opposed the use of the word “faggot” in a sexual context, the show has become a conduit for extreme reactions.
Loved or hated, the controversy was enough for the station the take the show off its main page and halt further production for the last few weeks until this morning when a final decision was made by station’s founder and CEO, JACK SULLIVAN.
“What Hot Talk LA will not stand for is blatant character assassination,” says SULLIVAN. “But the fact is, neither JASON nor his guests have ever assassinated someone’s character. In the context of his show and his show’s world, hot talk between gay men in the porn business, the issues some have with the language used are non-issues and are more representative of the insecurities others have.”
The station’s owner continues, “After much debate, we have decided editing the show in any way would violate our own stance on censorship. We are leaving the show as is.”
“This is a huge victory for the adult entertainment industry,” says SECHREST. “I’ve had many talk shows before on adult-themed networks but this is the first I’ve hosted on a truly mainstream platform. Anytime I’ve done anything mainstream in the past in regards to porn, it has been met with this kind of controversy and consequently shut down. For Hot Talk LA to walk the walk and stand up for what they believe in is really touching to me and I hope to continue pissing people off and turning people on so long as everyone’s tuning in!”
