Director Michael Raven is infamous for many things in the adult film world, predominantly being a good storyteller and diving into the darker realms of the sex psyche. His movies tend to make you think while they get you off and push the boundaries of sex and sensuality. Naturally, I’m surprised to hear when I arrive on the set of his latest feature, Lovestruck, for Wicked Pictures, that the movie is a simple love story.

When does the boyfriend die? Where are the aliens? What’s the conspiracy? What about the candlewax? “It’s something different, it’s real cute,” says Raven, who recently signed exclusively to Wicked after a long run with Sin City. “It’s a light romantic comedy.” Could this possibly be yet another sign of what many have called “the new Michael Raven?” His metamorphosis since linking up with adult film icon, Julia Ann, is about as prominent in the adult world as Madonna is to Guy Ritchie in mainstream. There is certainly a softer Michael Raven these days, though that’s not the reason for Lovestruck, if you’d ask him point blank. “Not likely,” he laughs. “I’m shooting a sci-fi horror movie for Wicked next month called Black Sun, so it won’t be long. This is a great movie though. Good script. I didn’t write it.”

Raven spoke with me honestly about his leave from Sin City. “It makes sense,” he explained. “I get to work with my wife, I get a good budget, I get creative freedom, and I’m making the kind of movies I want to make. They are gravitating towards gonzo and all-sex movies. That’s not what I like to do. But they’ve got Skeeter Kerkove over there and there are no bigger movies [than his when it comes to gonzo]. He promotes himself very well.” As for those rumors on Larry Flynt buying out Sin City, Raven admits he’s heard the rumors, but claims he knows nothing about that and that it was not in any way a deciding factor for his departure from the company. Hmm! Good to know.

I stop into the dressing room to catch up with Wicked exclusive, Devinn Lane, who, as constant readers know, I have had “a thang” with since she first started doing porn.
